Homeopathy and traditional medicine
Homeopathy is a safe and holistic system of medicine that makes use of remedies prepared in such a way that makes them completely compatible with the body and side effect free. Homeopathic remedies (the natural substances used in homeopathy) have a curative effect on the physical, mental and emotional aspect of the human being. Thus they can be safely employed for a wide range of both physical and mental/emotional conditions. Furthermore they can be used alongside conventional drugs without changing their effect or mode of action. Homeopathy does not contradict conventional treatment but offers to work alongside with it, further assisting a person's process to complete cure and holistic well being. It also offers a safe option for those who are sensitive to conventional medicine or a are seeking other alternatives. All along the treatment homeopaths liaise with the medical profession diagnosis bearing in mind the total well-being of the patient.
Prior to their use, homeopathic remedies are tried on healthy human beings under a specific methodology of homeopathic clinical trials called provings. Homeopathic remedies are thus tested before their use - this ensures their safety and unfolds their curative properties. The testings are documented and form the core of the Homeopathic Materia Medica. This codex is the main reference work to which homeopaths refer in choosing the appropriate remedy for each patient.
The founding father of homeopathy
Homeopathy was founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann two hundred years ago. Samuel Hahnemann was a physician, chemist and linguist. Dissatisfied with the medical system of the time, he researched and established a curative system that was safe effective and gentle; in harmony with the laws of nature and based on clear sounding principals. Hahnemann embarked on his discovery by asking the questions:
- How do drugs act and cure diseases?
- What is to be cured and how cure occurs?
- What diseases become chronic and how?
- What are the obstacles to cure?
His whole life was devoted to solve these problems. The net result was the discovery of homeopathy. The principals methodology and mode of action of homeopathy are all contained and clearly explained in his text book Organon of Medicine. The system has stood the test of time, spread across the five continents and is the second largest therapeutic system in the world (World Health Organisation report).
Samuel Hahnemann`s motto was Aude sapere. Dare to be wise. Thus he lived, questioned and discovered.
